Athens & Mykonos

Six days in Greece built around two very different experiences. Two days in Athens going deep into the ancient markets, rooftop dinners above the Parthenon, and the neighbourhood street food that most visitors miss entirely. Then four days on Mykonos with windmill sunsets, hidden village tavernas, the best beaches in the Aegean, and a morning on the sacred uninhabited island of Delos. Greece done at exactly the right pace.

Detailed Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1

Arrive Athens | Central Market | Psiri District | Rooftop Dinner

Arrive at Athens International Airport and check in near the historic centre. Afternoon at the Athens Central Market on Athinas Street, one of the most alive traditional markets in Europe with butchers, fishmongers, and spice sellers in an 1880s iron-and-glass hall. Evening in the Psiri neighbourhood, one of Athens's most authentic areas for ouzo, grilled octopus, and mezedes at local tavernas that tourists rarely find. Overnight Athens.

πŸ’‘ Tip: Psiri sits directly behind Monastiraki and is completely different in character. The tavernas here serve better food at lower prices than anywhere on the main tourist circuit.
Day 2

Acropolis at Dawn | National Archaeological Museum | Exarchia Evening

Arrive at the Acropolis gates at opening time for the Parthenon, the Erechtheion with its Caryatid porch, and the Temple of Athena Nike before the crowds arrive. Descend to the Ancient Agora for the Temple of Hephaestus, the best-preserved ancient Greek temple in the world. Afternoon at the National Archaeological Museum, the finest Greek antiquities collection in the world with Mycenaean gold masks and the extraordinary Antikythera mechanism. Evening in the Exarchia neighbourhood for excellent independent restaurants. Overnight Athens.

πŸ’‘ Tip: The National Archaeological Museum is often overlooked in favour of the Acropolis Museum but its collection is significantly broader. Allow at least two hours and do not rush the Mycenaean rooms.
Day 3

Ferry to Mykonos | Mykonos Town Exploration | Windmills Sunset

Morning high-speed ferry to Mykonos, roughly two and a half hours from Piraeus. Check in and spend the afternoon navigating Mykonos Town, one of the most beautiful Cycladic villages in the Aegean, through deliberately confusing white-and-blue lanes past bougainvillea-covered churches and boutique doorways. Walk up to the windmills on the ridge above town for the late afternoon light over the harbour. Stay for sunset drinks at a windmill-side table. Overnight Mykonos.

πŸ’‘ Tip: Book your Mykonos hotel far in advance for July and August. The town fills completely and prices triple compared to shoulder season.
Day 4

Delos Island Morning | Ancient City | Ornos Beach Afternoon

Morning boat from the old port to Delos, the sacred uninhabited island that was the most important religious sanctuary in the ancient Greek world. Walk through a complete ancient city including the Sanctuary of Apollo, the famous Terrace of the Lions, and ancient villas with intact mosaic floors. Return to Mykonos by early afternoon for a long lazy afternoon at Ornos Beach, the calmest and most sheltered of the Mykonos beaches. Overnight Mykonos.

πŸ’‘ Tip: Delos closes at 3 PM so take the first boat at 9 AM from the old port. Give yourself at least three hours on the island. The site is vast and there is almost no shade.
Day 5

Ano Mera Village | Tourliani Monastery | Super Paradise Beach | Farewell Dinner

Morning drive to Ano Mera, the only other village on Mykonos and a world away from the tourist town, with a genuine weekly market and the beautiful 16th-century Tourliani Monastery with its baroque marble fountain. Afternoon at Super Paradise Beach, one of the most dramatic coves on the island with turquoise water tucked between rocky headlands. Farewell dinner in the Kastro neighbourhood of Mykonos Town above Little Venice. Overnight Mykonos.

πŸ’‘ Tip: The taverna on the main square at Ano Mera serves genuine Greek village cooking at prices that feel like they belong to a completely different country compared to the main town.
Day 6

Final Beach Morning | Flight to Athens | Departure

Final swim and late breakfast before the short flight back to Athens for your international connection. If time allows, pick up Greek mountain tea, Kozani saffron, and mastiha products from a deli near the airport before departure. End of tour.

πŸ’‘ Tip: Mykonos Airport is very small and gets seriously chaotic in summer. Arrive 90 minutes before your flight and check in online the night before.
