Day 4
Fly to Cairns | Great Barrier Reef Cruise | Coral Snorkeling

Snorkel over gardens of staghorn coral with parrotfish, clownfish, sea turtles, and giant clams. Optional introductory scuba dive for non-certified swimmers. Return to Cairns by evening. Overnight Cairns.
π‘ Tip: Choose a reef cruise that goes to the outer reef rather than the inner reef - the coral is significantly more intact and the marine life more abundant.
Day 5
Daintree Rainforest | Cape Tribulation | Crocodile Cruise
Full day drive north to the Daintree Rainforest, the world's oldest continuously surviving tropical rainforest at 135 million years old. Take the Daintree River cruise to spot enormous saltwater crocodiles in their natural habitat. Drive to Cape Tribulation where the rainforest meets the reef right at the beach. Swim at Myall Beach surrounded by ancient rainforest. Overnight Cairns.
π‘ Tip: Do not swim in estuarine or river water in North Queensland - saltwater crocodiles are genuinely dangerous and swim in all coastal waterways.
Day 6
Fly to Uluru | Sunset at the Rock | Field of Light
Morning flight via Alice Springs to Ayers Rock Airport in the Red Centre. Afternoon drive to the base of Uluru, the 348-metre sandstone monolith sacred to the Anangu Aboriginal people. Evening at Bruce Munro's Field of Light installation, 50,000 solar-powered stems of light glowing across the desert. Overnight Uluru resort.
π‘ Tip: Climbing Uluru is permanently closed out of respect for the Anangu people - the base walk around the full 9.4-km perimeter is extraordinary and recommended instead.
Day 7
Uluru Sunrise | Kata Tjuta | Valley of the Winds Walk
Sunrise at Uluru as the rock glows deep red in the morning light. Drive 50 km to Kata Tjuta, the 36 domed rock formations also sacred to the Anangu, for the Valley of the Winds walk through the gorges between the domes. Afternoon cultural centre to learn about Anangu Dreamtime stories and the deep connection between the Aboriginal people and this landscape. Overnight Uluru.
π‘ Tip: Kata Tjuta's Valley of the Winds walk is physically demanding and closes when temperatures exceed 36 degrees - start early and carry at least 2 litres of water.
Day 8
Fly to Melbourne | Fitzroy | Queen Victoria Market | Laneways
Morning flight to Melbourne, Australia's cultural capital. Afternoon exploring Fitzroy's Smith Street for vintage shops, cafes, and street art. Evening in the famous laneway network of the CBD - Hosier Lane, Centre Place, and Hardware Lane for world-class street art, espresso bars, and restaurants that Australia's coffee culture is built on. Overnight Melbourne.
π‘ Tip: Melbourne's coffee culture is genuine and serious - order a flat white or a long black at any independent cafe and you will not be disappointed.
Day 9
Melbourne | Great Ocean Road Day Trip | Twelve Apostles
Full day drive along the Great Ocean Road, one of the world's most spectacular coastal drives. The road hugs dramatic sea cliffs past surf beaches, rainforest gullies, and koala habitats. End at the Twelve Apostles, limestone stacks rising from the Southern Ocean, best seen at sunset when the golden light turns them orange. Return to Melbourne. Overnight Melbourne.
π‘ Tip: The Great Ocean Road is a full day trip from Melbourne - allow at least 10 hours to do it justice and consider staying overnight at Port Campbell near the Twelve Apostles.
