Detailed Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1

Arrive Athens | Plaka | Monastiraki | First Acropolis View at Sunset

Arrive at Athens International Airport and transfer to your hotel in the Plaka or Monastiraki neighbourhood. Afternoon walk through the ancient lanes of Plaka, the oldest continuously inhabited neighbourhood in Europe, to the base of the Acropolis rock. Climb to the Philopappos Hill opposite for the best free sunset view of the Acropolis lit in the evening light. Dinner at a rooftop taverna with the Parthenon above. Overnight Athens.

πŸ’‘ Tip: Monastiraki flea market on Sunday mornings is extraordinary - antiques, vintage clothing, and old Greek coins spread across the pavements around the ancient mosque.
Day 2

Acropolis | Parthenon | Ancient Agora | Acropolis Museum

Early morning at the Acropolis before the heat and crowds arrive. Walk through the Propylaea gateway to the Parthenon, the Erechtheion with its Caryatid porch, and the Temple of Athena Nike. Descend to the Ancient Agora where Socrates taught and democracy was invented. Afternoon at the Acropolis Museum, a world-class modern building housing the original Elgin Marbles that remain in Athens. Overnight Athens.

πŸ’‘ Tip: Arrive at the Acropolis at 8 AM when it opens - by 10 AM it is unbearably crowded and extremely hot in summer. The site has almost no shade.
Day 3

Meteora Day Trip | Rock Monasteries | Train to Athens | Ferry to Santorini

Early morning train to Meteora in central Greece where medieval monasteries are perched on the summits of vertical rock pillars rising 300 metres from the plain below - one of the most extraordinary landscapes in Europe. Walk between monasteries with 360-degree views over the Thessaly plain. Return by train and take the overnight ferry or morning flight to Santorini. Overnight Santorini.

πŸ’‘ Tip: Meteora has six accessible monasteries - the most dramatic views are from the Holy Trinity Monastery which requires climbing 140 steps cut into the rock face.
Day 4

Santorini | Oia Sunset | Fira Walk | Black Sand Beach | Caldera View

Full day on Santorini, the most photogenic island in the Mediterranean. Morning walk from Fira to Oia along the caldera rim path with views over the flooded ancient volcano and the deep blue Aegean 300 metres below. Afternoon at Perissa or Perivolos black sand beach on the eastern coast. Evening in Oia for the famous caldera sunset - the most photographed moment in all of Greece. Overnight Santorini.

πŸ’‘ Tip: Oia fills completely for the famous sunset - arrive at least 90 minutes early to secure a spot on the castle ramparts for the best view.
Day 5

Santorini | Akrotiri Ruins | Wine Tasting | Catamaran Cruise

Morning at Akrotiri, the perfectly preserved Minoan Bronze Age city buried by the volcanic eruption 3600 years ago and called the Pompeii of the Aegean. Afternoon wine tasting at a Santorini winery for the unique Assyrtiko wines grown in basket-shaped vines on the volcanic soil. Late afternoon catamaran cruise around the caldera to the hot springs and the small volcanic island of Nea Kameni. Overnight Santorini.

πŸ’‘ Tip: Santorini's Assyrtiko white wine is one of Greece's finest and unique to the island's volcanic soil - it does not travel well so drink as much as possible while you are here.
Day 6

Ferry to Mykonos | Windmills | Little Venice | Beach Clubs

Morning ferry 2 hours to Mykonos. Walk through Mykonos Town past the iconic windmills on the hill and the Little Venice district where the colourful houses hang directly over the sea. Afternoon at Paradise Beach or Ornos Beach with the famously lively Mykonos beach club scene. Evening dinner in the Kastro neighbourhood as the sun sets behind the windmills. Overnight Mykonos.

πŸ’‘ Tip: Mykonos Town's narrow lanes are deliberately confusing to protect against pirate attacks historically - getting lost in them is part of the experience.
Day 7

Mykonos | Delos Island Day Trip | Sunset at Armenistis Lighthouse

Morning boat to the uninhabited sacred island of Delos, the mythological birthplace of Apollo and Artemis and one of the most important archaeological sites in Greece with an entire ancient city to explore. Return to Mykonos for a final afternoon at the beach. Sunset at the Armenistis Lighthouse on Mykonos's rocky northwestern tip, the most beautiful on the island. Overnight Mykonos.

πŸ’‘ Tip: Delos is only accessible by boat from Mykonos and closes at 3 PM - take the first morning boat at 9 AM to have enough time to explore the site properly.
Day 8

Fly back to Athens | Departure

Morning flight from Mykonos to Athens for your international connection. If time allows, a final Greek coffee and baklava in the Monastiraki neighbourhood before transfer to Athens International Airport. End of tour.

πŸ’‘ Tip: Greek coffee is served in a small cup with grounds settled at the bottom - drink it slowly and do not drain the last sip.
