Day 1
Arrive Leh | Rest and Acclimatize
Arrive at Leh Airport and transfer to hotel. Spend the entire day resting to adjust to the altitude at 3524 metres. A gentle evening walk through Leh Market for pashmina shawls and dried apricots, followed by a slow visit to Leh Palace and Shanti Stupa for sunset views. Overnight Leh.
π‘ Tip: Do not exert yourself on Day 1 at any cost - altitude sickness is real, starts subtly, and can turn serious fast.
Day 2
Leh Sightseeing | Thiksey | Hemis Monastery | Shey Palace
Full day of monastery visits starting with Thiksey, a 12-storey monastery resembling Potala Palace. Move to Hemis, Ladakh's largest monastery with rare Thangka paintings. End at Shey Palace and drive to the dramatic Indus-Zanskar confluence where two rivers meet. Overnight Leh.
π‘ Tip: Carry sunscreen SPF 50 minimum - UV radiation at this altitude is extreme and will burn within minutes.
Day 3
Leh to Nubra Valley | Khardung La | Diskit Monastery | Camel Ride
Cross Khardung La Pass at 5359 metres with a quick photo stop at the top. Descend to Nubra Valley and visit Diskit Monastery with its 32-metre Maitreya Buddha statue. Evening Bactrian camel ride on the Hunder sand dunes at sunset - cold desert dunes in the middle of the Himalayas. Overnight Nubra Valley camp.
π‘ Tip: Carry oxygen if prone to altitude issues - Khardung La is higher than most Alpine peaks in Europe.
Day 4
Nubra to Pangong Lake | Shyok Valley Drive
5-hour scenic drive through remote Ladakhi villages via the Shyok Valley to Pangong Lake. First view of the impossibly blue 134-km lake spanning India and China. Afternoon walk along the shifting-colour shoreline as the lake turns turquoise, blue, and green through the day. Overnight Pangong camp.
π‘ Tip: Pangong is at 4350 metres - warm layers are essential even in peak summer as nights drop below zero.
Day 5
Pangong Sunrise | Chang La Pass | Return to Leh
Wake at 5:30 AM for the Pangong sunrise as the lake shifts from purple to gold. Drive back to Leh crossing Chang La Pass at 5360 metres. Stop at Druk Padma Karpo School, the filming location of 3 Idiots. Evening at Hall of Fame Museum, a tribute to Indian Army soldiers who defended Ladakh. Overnight Leh.
π‘ Tip: Rancho School is right on the route and takes only 20 minutes - worth the quick stop.
Day 6
Magnetic Hill | Gurudwara Pathar Sahib | Indus-Zanskar Sangam
Visit Magnetic Hill where your car appears to roll uphill due to a famous optical illusion. Stop at Gurudwara Pathar Sahib, a serene 16th-century Sikh shrine with free langar. Drive to the Indus-Zanskar Sangam to watch the blue Zanskar River meet the muddy brown Indus. Evening free for last shopping in Leh Market. Overnight Leh.
π‘ Tip: Buy apricot jam and walnut oil from Leh Market - these are Ladakh's best edible souvenirs.
Day 7
Departure from Leh
Final breakfast at hotel. Transfer to Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport for your return flight. End of tour.
π‘ Tip: Leh flights are heavily weather-dependent - always keep a buffer day in your schedule if possible.
