Detailed Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1

Arrive Cape Town | V and A Waterfront | Signal Hill Sunset

Arrive at Cape Town International Airport and transfer to your hotel. Afternoon at the V and A Waterfront, the historic harbour with restaurants, markets, and views of Table Mountain. Walk up Signal Hill at dusk for a free panoramic sunset over the Atlantic Ocean and the city bowl. Overnight Cape Town.

πŸ’‘ Tip: Cape Town has a reputation for petty theft - be aware of your surroundings especially at night and in crowded areas.
Day 2

Table Mountain | Camps Bay Beach | Clifton Sunset

Morning cable car ride up Table Mountain for 360-degree views over Cape Town, the Cape Peninsula, and both oceans. Walk some of the mountain paths before cabling back down. Afternoon at the fashionable Camps Bay Beach backed by the Twelve Apostles mountain range. Sunset drinks at Clifton Beach. Overnight Cape Town.

πŸ’‘ Tip: Table Mountain is often cloud-covered - check the forecast the evening before and go on the clearest morning of your stay.
Day 3

Cape Peninsula | Cape of Good Hope | Boulders Beach Penguins

Full day drive down the Cape Peninsula along the Atlantic coast. Stop at Chapman's Peak for dramatic cliff views. Visit the Cape of Good Hope, the southwestern tip of Africa. Stop at Boulders Beach to walk among the colony of 3000 African penguins. Return to Cape Town via Simon's Town and Fish Hoek. Overnight Cape Town.

πŸ’‘ Tip: The Cape of Good Hope is cold and windy even in summer - carry a windproof jacket regardless of the weather in Cape Town.
Day 4

Cape Winelands | Stellenbosch | Franschhoek Wine Tram

Drive 45 minutes to Stellenbosch, the heart of South Africa's wine country. Morning wine tasting at two or three estates in the oak-lined streets of Stellenbosch. Afternoon ride on the Franschhoek Wine Tram, a hop-on hop-off tram connecting the valley's best wineries. Return to Cape Town for a final evening. Overnight Cape Town.

πŸ’‘ Tip: The Franschhoek Wine Tram needs to be booked at least a day in advance - it is extremely popular and often fully booked.
Day 5

Drive the Garden Route | Knysna | Plettenberg Bay

Drive east along the Garden Route, one of the world's most scenic coastal roads. Stop at Knysna, a beautiful lagoon town surrounded by indigenous forest, for a ferry trip to the Knysna Heads. Continue to Plettenberg Bay for a walk on the beach and optional whale watching tour. Overnight Garden Route.

πŸ’‘ Tip: The Garden Route is best self-driven - the freedom to stop at viewpoints and beaches at your own pace makes all the difference.
Day 6

Tsitsikamma | Storms River Suspension Bridge | Fly to Kruger

Morning at Tsitsikamma National Park for the spectacular suspension bridge walk over the Storms River mouth, one of South Africa's most dramatic gorges. Drive to Port Elizabeth or George Airport and fly to Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport. Transfer to your safari lodge in the Greater Kruger area. Evening game drive. Overnight Kruger lodge.

πŸ’‘ Tip: Book your Kruger safari lodge early - good private lodges on the Kruger boundaries fill up months in advance.
Day 7

Kruger Full Safari Day | Dawn and Dusk Game Drives

Full day in and around Kruger National Park, home to all Big Five and one of Africa's densest wildlife populations. Dawn game drive starting at 5:30 AM when lions and leopards are most active. Return to lodge for breakfast and a midday rest. Afternoon game drive until sunset. Night sounds of the bush at the lodge boma with dinner under the stars. Overnight Kruger lodge.

πŸ’‘ Tip: Dawn game drives are the most rewarding - predators are active in the cool morning hours and the light is perfect for photography.
Day 8

Final Kruger Safari | Panorama Route | Blyde River Canyon

Morning game drive with a final chance at Big Five sightings. Afternoon drive along the Panorama Route stopping at God's Window for views into the lowveld and the Blyde River Canyon, one of the world's largest green canyons. Overnight Hazyview or Nelspruit.

πŸ’‘ Tip: Blyde River Canyon viewpoints are stunning at sunrise and sunset - time your drive accordingly if possible.
Day 9

Fly to Johannesburg | Departure

Morning transfer to Kruger Mpumalanga Airport for a short flight to Johannesburg O.R. Tambo International Airport. Optional stopover at Sandton City for last-minute shopping. Connect to your international flight home. End of tour.

πŸ’‘ Tip: Johannesburg O.R. Tambo is a large and efficient airport - arrive 3 hours before international departure.
