Day 1
Arrive Victoria Falls | The Falls | Sunset Cruise on Zambezi
Arrive at Victoria Falls Airport and transfer to your hotel. Walk to the Victoria Falls viewpoints along the knife-edge path as mist rises 500 metres from the world's largest curtain of falling water, 1.7 km wide. You will be soaked and stunned in equal measure. Evening sunset cruise on the Zambezi River watching hippos, crocodiles, and elephants come to drink as the sun sets. Overnight Victoria Falls.
π‘ Tip: The Falls are most dramatic from February to May when the Zambezi is at full flow - June to September has clearer views but less volume.
Day 2
Victoria Falls Activities | Bungee Jump or Rafting | Craft Market
Full activity day at Victoria Falls. Choose from bungee jumping off the Victoria Falls Bridge, white water rafting on Grade 5 rapids below the falls, a microlight flight over the falls, or simply walking the various viewpoints again from the Zambia side with a day visa. Afternoon at the Victoria Falls craft market for Shona stone sculptures and hand-painted batik. Overnight Victoria Falls.
π‘ Tip: The rafting below Victoria Falls is some of the world's most intense Grade 5 white water - not suitable for non-swimmers or those prone to anxiety.
Day 3
Drive to Hwange National Park | Afternoon Game Drive
2-hour drive to Hwange National Park, Zimbabwe's largest wildlife reserve and home to over 40,000 elephants. Afternoon game drive across the vlei grasslands and teak woodlands. Hwange is excellent for large predator sightings with lions, leopards, cheetahs, and wild dogs. Overnight Hwange safari lodge.
π‘ Tip: Hwange's waterholes are the secret to great wildlife viewing - park near a waterhole in the late afternoon and animals will come to you.
Day 4
Full Day Hwange | Dawn Drive | Elephant Herds at Waterholes
Full day in Hwange starting with a 5:30 AM game drive for the best predator activity. Hwange's elephant herds can number 300 animals at a single waterhole in the dry season - a scene unlike anywhere else in Africa. Afternoon guided walking safari with an armed ranger for a completely different perspective on the bush. Overnight Hwange lodge.
π‘ Tip: A walking safari in Hwange with an experienced ranger is the highlight of many visitors' trips - the bush at ground level is an entirely different experience to a vehicle.
Day 5
Drive to Bulawayo | Matobo Hills | White Rhino Tracking
4-hour drive south to Bulawayo and into the Matobo Hills, a landscape of ancient granite boulders piled impossibly on each other above the savannah. Morning walking safari to track white rhinos on foot with a ranger - Matobo has one of the highest concentrations of white rhinos in Africa. Visit Cecil Rhodes' grave at World's View with panoramic hilltop views. Overnight Bulawayo or Matobo.
π‘ Tip: Tracking white rhinos on foot in Matobo is genuinely thrilling - you can get within 20 metres of a rhino and the experience is unforgettable.
Day 6
Great Zimbabwe Ruins | Ancient Stone City
3-hour drive east to the Great Zimbabwe National Monument, the ruins of a medieval stone city that was the capital of a powerful trading empire between the 11th and 15th centuries. Walk through the Great Enclosure, the Hill Complex, and the Valley Ruins - the largest ancient stone structure in sub-Saharan Africa. Overnight Masvingo.
π‘ Tip: Great Zimbabwe is the source of the country's name - Zimbabwe means House of Stone in the Shona language.
Day 7
Drive to Harare | Mbare Musika Market | Departure
Drive to Harare, Zimbabwe's capital. Morning at Mbare Musika market, the largest and most colourful traditional market in the country. Browse the National Gallery of Zimbabwe for excellent Shona stone sculpture. Transfer to Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport for your return flight. End of tour.
π‘ Tip: Zimbabwe uses the US dollar for most transactions - carry small bills as change is often given in sweets or small goods.
